Rick Sikorski

CEO

In 1982 Sikorski realized the public gym model was broken. He felt there must be a better way to get people involved in a fitness program and more importantly to get lasting and life changing results from the program. This was the beginning of Fitness Together, personalized one on one training, which would eventually become the largest personal training organization in the world with system wide sales of over $96 million. (2006)

At just 22 years of age, and without outside funding, business growth was very difficult initially for Sikorski. He did not have enough money to rent an apartment so he slept in his studio for the first year. At the end of the day he would lock the doors and pull out a sleeping bag. He had no money for marketing so he would print fliers and then walk all over the neighborhoods and hand out the fliers and talk to people to promote his company. What he lacked in funding he more than made up for in determination!

The model’s uniqueness caught on. At Fitness Together each client was able to work in a small fully-equipped private weight room. Privacy was the key difference in Sikorski’s model along with accountability, nutrition and cardiovascular training.

And wow did it catch on…

By 2006 Fitness Together was in five different countries and had 623 locations sold with 450 open. In addition, in 2005 Sikorski launched a new business model, Elements Massage, which is now over 300 locations and growing.

In 2007 Sikorski sold both Fitness Together and Elements Massage to an equity fund out of New York.
